As Climate Week Begins, Electing Kamala Harris is “Single Biggest Contribution” U.S. Can Make to Global Climate Fight

NEW YORK (September 20, 2024)—World leaders are gathering for Climate Week NYC next week, in the run up to global climate negotiations (COP29) and against the backdrop of a critical U.S. presidential election in November.

A statement follows from NRDC Action Fund President Manish Bapna:

“The single biggest contribution the U.S. can make in this moment to combat the global climate crisis is to elect Kamala Harris in November.

“As world leaders gather in New York for Climate Week, two starkly different climate futures are on the ballot in the U.S. —and the election is extremely close. The progress we’ve made over the past few years is on the line. The path we choose will have implications well beyond our borders.

“One candidate has been a driving force in the strongest presidential administration on climate in U.S. history—and she is ready to build on it from day one. Kamala Harris led the U.S. team at last year’s U.N. climate talks where the world reached a historic agreement on accelerating clean energy and phasing out fossil fuels. She will breathe new life into America’s global climate leadership.

“The other was the worst climate president in U.S. history—and promises to do even more harm in a second term. Donald Trump has not only vowed to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement again—but this time he wants to take away our seat at the table for good, doing lasting damage long after he leaves office.

“As we wrap up another record-breaking summer of extreme heat and weather—it’s clear we do not have four more years of U.S. leadership to lose in confronting this crisis. Kamala Harris is the leader we need in the White House to work with world leaders to confront this global crisis and build a better future for people everywhere.”
