Debate Pits Biden’s Climate Action v Trump’s Big Oil Payola

WASHINGTON (June 27, 2024) – President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump faced off tonight in the first debate of the 2024 presidential election, with both candidates asked by moderators about their plans to address the climate crisis.

Manish Bapna, president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund issued the following statement in response:

“Biden drew the stark contrast between his record of climate achievement and Trump’s pledge to let Big Oil reverse those gains in exchange for $1 billion in campaign cash.

“Biden touted passage of what he rightly called ‘the most extensive climate change legislation in history.’ He said Trump “wants to undo all that I have done.’ Also true.

“Biden made the case for four more years to finish what he’s begun. He’s earned our trust, he’s earned our vote.”
