WASHINGTON (June 26, 2024) – President Biden debates former president Donald Trump Thursday night.
Manish Bapna, president of the NRDC Action Fund, made the following statement:
“This is a debate between a climate champ and a climate chump. Biden’s delivered the strongest U.S. climate action in history. Trump slammed climate progress into reverse. He’d bring more of the same in a second act, mortgaging our future and sacrificing our health for a billion dollars in oil and gas cash – and leaving our kids to pay the price.
“Elections are about the future. Few things will shape it more than what we do, or fail to do, to confront the climate crisis. Debates are about contrast. On climate, the candidates are night and day.
“A runaway train of climate disaster is ripping through our communities, cities, ranches and farms. Biden’s taking action in a way that’s creating jobs in red states and blue by driving investment, innovation and economic growth. He’s lowering utility costs for our families, making the country more energy secure and cutting climate pollution. He needs a second term to finish the work he’s started. We can’t afford four more years of Trump chaos.”
