WASHINGTON (August 6, 2024) – Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to name Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate.
Manish Bapna, president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund, issued the following statement:
“This is the winning ticket on climate. The Harris-Walz administration will be ready, on day one, to build on the strongest climate action ever, deliver even greater gains going forward and lead by example in the global fight against the existential challenge of our time.
“Tim Walz has made Minnesota a national climate leader. Under his leadership, the North Star State committed to 100 percent clean energy by 2040 and became the first Midwestern state to adopt California’s tailpipe emissions standards. He’s stood up for safe drinking water for all Minnesotans, signing a bill last year to direct $240 million to replace lead service lines statewide. He brings sound judgment and a solid commitment to protecting the environment and public health in a way that advances equity.
“The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher nor the choice more clear. Trump would bow to billionaire oil and gas donors, slam climate progress into reverse and leave our kids to pay the price. Harris is a proven climate and justice leader with two decades of public service on the front lines of needed progress and change.
