CHICAGO (August 21, 2024) – According to published reports, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. plans to end his presidential campaign and endorse former President Donald Trump on Friday. While Kennedy was formerly connected to the Natural Resources Defense Council, his colleagues from that time publicly rejected his candidacy this summer.
Following is reaction from NRDC Action Fund President and CEO Manish Bapna:
“If the reports are true, Kennedy has abdicated any vestige of environmental cred by throwing his lot in with the worst environmental president in history. Trump waged a White House assault on the environment and public health when he was last in office. If he is elected, Trump has pledged to slam climate progress into reverse as payback to billionaire oil and gas donors. Project 2025 will be Trump’s roadmap to environmental ruin and climate catastrophe. Anyone paying attention can see that Harris-Walz is the winning ticket on climate and justice.
“Kennedy is a one-man misinformation superspreader. This news would represent a very sad marriage of climate denial and antivax conspiracy theorists.
“Those who worked with Kennedy decades ago find him unrecognizable and are struggling to understand how he has come to this. Kennedy is not just weird; he is dangerous.”
