Washington – United States Senator Bob Casey (D-Penn.) today earned the endorsement of the NRDC Action Fund, a national organization working to build political support for protecting the planet and its people. Casey is running for re-election in 2018.
“Senator Casey’s record of protecting human health and the environment over his first two terms in the U.S. Senate puts him squarely on the side of Pennsylvania families,” said NRDC Action Fund executive director Kevin Curtis. “From fighting for clean air and drinking water protections to supporting 21st century clean energy jobs, residents of the Commonwealth are lucky to have a champion in the Senate who puts their priorities ahead of corporate polluters. He is the clear, common-sense choice in the 2018 Senate race, and the NRDC Action Fund is proud to support him.”
“I’m proud to stand with the NRDC Action Fund as we work to combat climate change, ensure clean air and water, and protect our natural resources,” Casey said. “A healthy environment means a healthy public and a healthy economy, and it is on all of us to do our part. I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the NRDC Action Fund and I look forward to continuing our work together to safeguard the environment for future generations.”
Sen. Casey voted against EPA administrator Scott Pruitt’s confirmation, citing concerns for “the children of Pennsylvania, who deserve clean water to drink, clean air to breathe and action on climate change.” Casey has opposed the Trump administration’s efforts to weaken health and environmental standards like the Clean Power Plan, and he voted to support implementation of the EPA’s Clean Water Rule that would protect the drinking water of 117 million Americans. Casey also opposed the administration’s withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement saying the decision would put “Pennsylvania workers at a disadvantage when it comes to competing for clean energy jobs” and “undermine the clean air that every Pennsylvanian has a right to expect.”
In 2016, Sen. Casey received a 100% voting score from the League of Conservation Voters. His re-election would send a signal to Washington that American families want common-sense protections for their air, water, and climate.
