WASHINGTON (May 9, 2024) – The Washington Post reported today that Donald Trump, in a meeting with top oil executives last month at Mar-a-Lago, asked them to raise $1 billion for his presidential campaign in exchange for his promise to roll back President Biden’s clean energy agenda should Trump win a second term.
Manish Bapna, president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund, issued the following statement in response:
“Donald Trump just promised to crush Americans’ exploding clean energy choices in exchange for $1 billion in campaign contributions from oil executives. It’s hard to feel shocked by Trump’s actions and statements these days, but this is singularly outrageous. We may not have the fossil fuel industry’s billions, but exposing Trump’s dirty backroom dealing will galvanize climate voters to turn out for President Biden this fall.”
