NEW YORK (October 1, 2024)—Tonight’s vice-presidential debate showed that Tim Walz and Kamala Harris are the clear choice for voters who want action on climate and clean energy.
A statement follows from NRDC Action Fund Executive Director Kevin Curtis:
“With millions in the Southeast reeling from Hurricane Helene, which was fueled by exceptionally warm ocean temperatures, Tim Walz made it clear he and Kamala Harris are the winning ticket for voters who want a safer future.
“Like Harris, Walz is a climate champion. They know that people across this country are suffering the impacts of climate change, and they need action. They understand that good climate policy is good economic policy. They will continue to grow the nation’s clean energy industry, which is lowering costs for consumers and employing nearly 3.5 million people across the country. Together, they are ready to build on the progress of the past few years, starting on day one.
“Meanwhile, J.D. Vance reminded voters tonight that he and Donald Trump are in this election for themselves and their Big Oil billionaire supporters. If elected, they will continue to deny the reality of the climate crisis, while people across this country suffer the consequences. Instead of working on solutions—they’ll get to work undoing all the progress this country has made on clean energy in recent years. That’s the promise Trump made to Big Oil billionaires in exchange for campaign cash. The dangerous Project 2025 MAGA manifesto will be their playbook.
“If you want to confront the climate crisis, there is only one choice in this election. That choice is Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
